Hello people, I’m Sam Jones and I am a Junior Designer here at Milk & Tweed. I was their first-ever employee (lucky them) and this article is all about me (lucky you). So if you are interested in finding out more about me (which I am sure you are) then by all means continue reading.
But before we get into that, let’s make this a bit more fun with 1 truth, 1 lie. So have a guess, which one do you think is the truth and which one is a lie.
- When I was 10 my cousin took part of my finger off as we thought we were samurai with cricket bats…
- When I was 16 I accidentally took my little sister down a black run whilst in France skiing…
Who is Sam Jones?
To put it simply, I am a young and creative person. I was born in Swindon in the early 2000s and I have many interests ranging from sports like football (shock), snowboarding to plants and more specifically bonsai trees as they are just small pieces of living art in themselves!
Name: Sam Jones
Job: Junior Designer
Team: Design & Web
Before I joined Milk & Tweed…
In the past, I worked in a golf shop as an assistant and I dabbled as a gardener for a bit. These were both part-time jobs and my real passion was design. From a very young age, I had a passion for all things design and at just 12, I started to use the Adobe suite. I would spend the majority of my free time creating random designs for my YouTube channel, just for fun along with creating various graphics tutorials and speed-art videos on YouTube.
So, as you can tell, I did have a pretty clear idea from a young age of the type of work I wanted to do. Having a creative mindset every day allows you to enjoy your work by designing styles and learning new skills, and that’s mainly what led me to pursue a design career. This is also what made Milk & Tweed so appealing to me, the fact that they work with a variety of clients and that no two projects are the same. This always keeps my working days fresh whilst also allowing me to build great relationships with our clientele.
The start of my journey with Milk & Tweed…
My journey with Milk & Tweed started when I was 18. I was fresh out of college and knew that I wanted to do graphic design. When considering my next steps, I knew that University wasn’t going to be the option for me so I did the next logical thing and searched around for Apprenticeships. However, most of the roles available were in large corporations where I felt I could easily become the “Tea Maker”. So when I found Milk & Tweed, I was massively excited as I liked the style and variety that their designs showcased. I applied for the apprenticeship, sent Jake my portfolio, had the interview and after a short time, I received a call to say I got it!
That was in September 2018. Fast-forward 4 years and I’m still here with a permanent role as a Junior Designer, woohoo
My favourite thing about working for Milk & Tweed…
It’s a tricky one as for the last 4 years Milk & Tweed has helped me in so many ways. They have enabled me to learn new skills and become a more confident designer, whilst also supporting me personally – helping me through the tougher times. However, I would say my absolute favourite thing about working here is our team! The people you work with make the biggest difference and the energy and laughs you have throughout the day can sometimes make you forget you’re working. I feel like I have made friends for life working at Milk & Tweed.
What the future holds for me
I think it’s hard to predict where your life is going to go but I see my future here, with Milk & Tweed. I am proud to be part of something that feels about the people and employees just as much as the work itself and I feel that because we all have a passion for the “creative” our fun to work balance is perfect. We want to create amazing work whilst also having some fun! I hope my position within Milk & Tweed can keep progressing as the business grows and hopefully one day I can help designers that are in my position now & our team can just keep on growing and getting stronger.
