Goughs was established in 1882 and has since grown to be one of the biggest solicitors firms across the South West of England. Originally founded in Calne, they now have seven offices spread across Wiltshire.

Goughs approached us in late 2020 to collaborate on the design and build of a new website. They realised the digital side of the business needed to be brought into the 21st century, and we were the perfect people to do just that. They also wanted to increase the number of enquiries received through the website, and for their brand to be a bigger name across the South West of England.
Our first focus was research. We did a huge SEO Discovery and research project, looking at thousands of search terms, landing pages and competitor websites to understand exactly what people wanted to see from their legal firms’ website.
With useability and easy-to-find information being key to Goughs’ brief, we knew the focus had to be on UX, clearly structured pages, and a nav that was easy to follow, but showed everything they offered. With the SEO discovery finished and the design signed off, it was finally time for the build.
The site launched in April 2022, and since then we’ve been tracking some pretty impressive stats (if we do say so ourselves). Since the website was built and digital marketing has taken off, Goughs has seen an average monthly increase of 4% of Google impressions and 7% of clicks.
Keeping the good news going, their key targets at the start of this project were to improve brand awareness and increase web leads. We’ll let the numbers speak for themselves here…
As part of their SEO discovery, we identified key topics they’d want to write about for future blogs, keeping the site updated with relevant keywords and search terms. Not only does this support them from an SEO point of view, but also adds credibility to their brand (which helps with the whole ‘be a bigger name across the South West of England’) and shows there are real experts behind the prestigious name.
And remember when we mentioned that Goughs thought their old site was hard to navigate? Not anymore.
Laura Cole, Goughs
“Goughs needed a new website to ensure our clients can easily find the information they need and get in touch seamlessly. We worked with Milk & Tweed to bring this to life whilst also ensuring the brand stayed true to its heritage and appealed to a new, more corporate audience.
Two years down the line and we’ve seen such positive results from the website, in terms of traffic and enquiries, that we’ve invested further to continue our SEO improvements and introduce a PPC strategy.
The direct results have exceeded our expectations and allowed our marketing team to focus their efforts elsewhere as the digital side of things has been so well taken care of by the whole team at M&T.”
