West London IoT

Project Overview

The brief

West London Institute of Technology is one of the first Institutes of Technology in England, created to help tackle the technical skills gap through industry-led education. With courses developed alongside Brunel University and employer partners, WLIoT gives students a clear route into careers across Engineering, Digital and Construction.

We partnered with the team to redesign the website, creating a more modern, accessible and user-focused experience that makes it easier to explore courses, understand progression routes and apply with confidence.

The process

The existing site was making things harder than they needed to be. The navigation felt clunky. The  content repetitive. Calls to action lacked clarity. Applicants were being sent off to individual college websites to apply, creating extra friction at the wrong moment.

We started with strategy-led discovery to get under the bonnet of the different audiences using the site, from school leavers and career changers to upskillers, progressors and employers. From there, we simplified the structure, sharpened the course journeys, strengthened navigation and calls to action, and designed a mobile-first experience that feels clearer and much easier to use.

We also made more room for the bigger story around progression, employability and innovation. The final output included UX planning, wireframes, empathy mapping, SEO discovery, homepage and key page designs, plus a full design-to-development handover for the Joomla 5 build.

The results

A clearer and more cohesive website direction designed to help WLIoT show up as the go-to destination for technical education in West London. The new experience makes course discovery quicker, supports more confident enquiries and applications, and gives the brand a digital presence that feels more modern and full of opportunity.
