Big brands that use WordPress for their websites

We love WordPress. We use it for all of our websites, and we even have several different articles talking about how good WordPress is. But it turns out that it’s not just us that love it. 835 million websites use WordPress in 2023, which works out at about 43% of all websites

That is HUGE!

Included in the 835 million companies/people using WordPress are some pretty well known businesses. Over half of the Top 100 Companies in Inc. 5000 are powered by WordPress! So, other than us here at Milk & Tweed (and all of our lovely clients) who else uses WordPress to power their website?

Sony Music

Sony Music has been a titan of record labels since its creation in 1929. Since then, the music giant has secured a place as one of the ‘big threes’ of the music corporations of the world, and generated USD $8.38 billion in 2022.

With a team of over 8,500 employees worldwide, and a total following of more than 5.7 million users across their social media channels, it’s clear that Sony Music are doing something right – maybe it’s all because they are using WordPress…

TIME

Global media brand, TIME, has been running for 100 years and has an audience of more than 100 million people worldwide across their platforms

Established in 1923, TIME was the first weekly news magazine. Today, TIME consists of a website, magazine, social media following of over 51 million, award-winning film and TV division, climate action platform, award-winning in-house branded content studio, recommendations and e-commerce platform, and a customer-experience platform.

Walt Disney Company

World famous entertainment brand, the Walt Disney Company, has held the monopoly on children’s entertainment since its creation 100 years ago.

What started as a humble cartoon studio in the 1920s, the Walt Disney Company has grown to operate 37 different businesses, including The Walt Disney Studios, ESPN and Disney parks. Disney’s revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2023 grew by 8% over the quarter and the company reported a revenue of $23.51 billion.

New York Post

Founded in 1801 by Alexander Hamilton, the New York Post has been sharing the news for over 200 years. America’s oldest continuously-published newspaper has, overtime, evolved into an international digital presence, with an average print circulation of 329,781 in 2022 and an average organic website traffic of over 232.5 million across the same time period. This digital growth isn’t all down the WordPress, but who’s to say it didn’t contribute a great deal…

The estimated annual revenue for the New York Post is $410.6M per year. Their estimated revenue per employee is $380,910, and in 2022, they had 1078, growing their employee count by 8% in one year.

Microsoft News

Microsoft, founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen, is the world’s largest software maker.

With revenue for the last twelve months ending March 2023 totalling $207.591 billion and increasing 7.81% year-on-year, Microsoft isn’t halting their growth any time soon!

Whilst Microsoft.com itself doesn’t use WordPress, they chose our favourite website management system to build their news website. This site generated an average organic traffic of 570,491 in April 2023 alone – so whilst their main site is powered by a different software, it’s still a major win for WordPress to have this site to their name.
